Etching Dichroic Glass

Lansing, MI

Friday May 29th, 2009

8:30am to 4:30pm

Etching Dichroic Glass

Dichroic glass is exciting on its own, but combined with etching you can create beautiful masterpieces of your own creation. This class will explore two techniques for etching glass: etching liquids/crèmes and a rotary grinding tool with an engraving bit. Using stickers, mastic, tape, fingernail polish and a sharpie pen, we will create our designs and etch them. Etching is only the first step. Once you have your etched dichroic glass, learn how to fuse your small masterpieces into cabochons using a small kiln. No cutting necessary. Although ideas and designs are available, bring your designs to put your own touch on your products. Students will make ten one-inch dichroic etched cabs. As a bonus we will also look at ceramic decals and Profusion Decals and fuse a few low and high fire decals! Students bring: Notebook, writing utensil and camera (optional). Wear cotton clothes. Bring ideas and designs you want to etch.
